MLK Day of Service 2026

MLK Day of Service 2026

Following more than a week of learning and reflection across assemblies, classrooms, affinity groups, and an evening program with JBS alum and social impact leader Brittany Packnett Cunningham ’02, the work of building Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s vision of the Beloved Community continued during Burroughs’ annual MLK Jr. Day of Service.

Fifty students representing all grades joined seven faculty members, seven parents, and family members for a day dedicated to community connection and service, hosted by the Montgomery Plan and the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity & Engagement (DEIE). The Montgomery Plan’s mission — to inspire informed, compassionate, and impactful engagement with the greater St. Louis community — was on full display.

Participants spent the morning serving alongside five community partners, including Baitulmal, Isaiah 58 Ministries, Jubilee Community Church, St. Anthony’s Food Pantry, and Webster-Rock Hill Ministries, supporting vital work through sorting, organizing, cleaning, and distributing donations.

The day concluded with a reflective lunch on campus, where students and adults discussed how service deepened their understanding of Beloved Community — dignity, justice, equity, peace, love, and humanity.
