Then, Christian Chang '28, Avary Choe '28, Daniel Kim '28, Ethan Sonn '28, and Averill Yi '28 provided a brief overview of relations between North and South Korea since World War II, and highlighted the work of Yeonmi Park, a North Korean defector and prominent human rights activist. The seventh graders shared two book recommendations — Park's In Order to Live and Still Life With Rice by Helie Lee — for anyone interested learning more about life inside North Korea.
*Asian Affinity Group: The Asian Affinity Group will meet at 4:45 pm Thursday, May 25, in the Newman Auditorium.
*Beekeeping: A row of beehives has been installed next to Laughing Lake; please stay at least 15-20 feet away from the hives if you are not wearing protective gear. Students interested in learning more about beekeeping should contact Dr. Walther (Science) at twalther@jburroughs.org.
*Model UN: Any students interested in getting involved with Model UN during the 2023-2024 school year should contact faculty sponsors Mr. Newman (Fine Arts), Dr. Koropchak (English), or Mr. Bang (History) for more information.
*Schedule: This week, Tuesday and Friday will be late start days; on Tuesday, faculty members will hold office hours for any students wanting to meet as part of their finals prep. Thursday will be a regular start day, with a special Senior Assembly. Students should return to their original 2022-2023 seats on Thursday to make room for senior parents/guardians in Haertter Hall.
*Spirit Week: Student body president Monét Witherspoon '24 reminded students about this week's Spirit Week themes; tomorrow is Twin Tuesday. Congress will send an email to students later today for anyone interested in signing up to participate in Friday's Field Day assembly or opening ceremonies.
