Alumni Awards: Brittany Packnett Cunningham '02

Alumni Awards: Brittany Packnett Cunningham '02

Brittany Packnett Cunningham '02 was honored during assembly on Friday, October 7 with both the Outstanding Alumnus and the Distinguished Service awards. She is the first alum to receive both in a single year. The award was presented by JBS Alumni Board president Terry Riley Patton '77; Brittany's family (including her brother, Barrington Packnett '07) were also in attendance.

Following the alumni awards presentation, Brittany stayed on stage to participate in a student-led discussion with Ayomide Ajakaiye '25, Alexander Doty '25, and Delali Suggs-Akaffu '27 about her work as an activist during her time at Burroughs and beyond. The conversation continued after assembly with 1st period English and History classes.

Brittany was one of the founders of Diversity E.T.C. and served as a catalyzing force for so many DEIE initiatives that have taken place at Burroughs over the past 25 years. Since then, Brittany has risen to prominence as an activist on the international stage while consistently giving Back to the Burroughs community through trainings, speaking engagements, and other partnerships with Daniel Harris and the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity & Engagement. Brittany also spoke to Burroughs' adult community during a presentation on Thursday, October 6.
