Visiting Artist Jess T. Dugan

Visiting Artist Jess T. Dugan

Students had the opportunity to hear from visiting artist Jess T. Dugan, who spent time on campus sharing the stories, ideas, and process behind their powerful body of work. In a thoughtful presentation, Dugan spoke about what their photographs represent—explorations of identity, relationships, and the complexity of being human—and how each image is shaped through an intentional, collaborative creative process.

Members of the Burroughs community may already recognize Dugan’s work from our On Loan Wall, and now their exhibition in the Bonsack Gallery offers students an even deeper look at the themes and techniques behind the photographs and drawings. Seeing the artwork in multiple spaces across campus helps bring these conversations to life, connecting the classroom to the gallery in meaningful ways.

Visiting artists play an important role in the Burroughs experience. Over the course of several days, students are able to engage directly with local and regional artists—hearing about their journeys, asking questions, and gaining insight into creative careers and processes. Experiences like this reflect our commitment to curiosity, creativity, and learning from voices beyond our own community. These visits spark curiosity, broaden perspectives, and remind students that art is a living, evolving practice shaped by real people and real stories.
