As part of their Community Engagement Week, 8th graders helped remove invasive bush honeysuckle in Kirkwood's Fireman's Park, mulched trees along the Mississippi Greenway at North Riverfront Park with Great Rivers Greenway, participated in a poverty simulation with LifeWise STL (which helps individuals and families achieve economic well-being), assisted in various gardening projects around the city with Brightside St. Louis, and helped plant 250 trees at Normandy City Hall with Beyond Housing.
Students also spent an afternoon watching Education, Interrupted, a documentary that tells the story of the unprecedented disruption in schooling caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. After the screening, students met with Aisha Sultan, the film's director and a columnist for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
