United Nations International Day of Peace Youth Observance

On September 16, three Burroughs students participated in the United Nations Day of Peace Youth Observance in at the U.N. headquarters in New York City. Accompanied by faculty sponsor Andrew Newman, Lucia del Pilar '24, Alexander Doty '25, and Ayomide Ajakaiye '25 joined hundreds of students from around the world in the Economic and Social Council Chamber for a forum with the theme "End racism. Build peace."

Attendees had a chance to hear from the U.N.'s highest officials including Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Deputy Secretary-General Amina Jane Mohammed, and Under-Secretary-General Volker Türk. Ayomide jumped on an early opportunity to approach the Secretary-General before the event started, introducing herself and speaking to him about her work with MUN Impact as its co-secretary general. The Secretary-General then introduced her to the DSG and the Under Secretary who all talked with Ayomide about MUN, Nigeria, and ways youth can promote positive change in the world.
