Alum Author Julia Riew ’17 Returns to Campus

On Wednesday, September 17, we welcomed back alum Julia Riew ’17, who visited campus to speak with 7th- and 12th-grade students about her debut novel, The Last Tiger, co-written with her brother, Brad Riew ’13.

During her visit, Julia shared her journey to becoming an author, reflected on the challenges and rewards of the writing process, and read excerpts from the book. She also fielded thoughtful questions from students, who were inspired by her reflections on creativity, resilience, and the pursuit of passion.

The Last Tiger—inspired by the Riews’ grandparents’ lives—is a young adult fantasy about love, resilience, and the fight to give voice to a silenced people. In a colonized land where tigers are hunted to extinction and ancient magic stirs, two star-crossed teens find their fates intertwined in a struggle for freedom and survival.

Burroughs is proud to see alumni like Julia return to campus to share their talents, stories, and experiences with the next generation. Her visit served as a powerful reminder of the strength of the Burroughs alumni community and its lasting impact on our students.
