JBS @ A Glance

Admission is based on school records, recommendations, entrance examination results, and a personal interview. The primary admission level are grades 7 and 9. Applications for grades 10 and 11 are considered as openings permit.

Applicants for aid follow regular admission procedures and submit a completed Parents' Financial Statement. Admission decisions are made separately from decisions about tuition aid, which are made solely on the basis of family financial need. Awards are in the form of grants, loans, or a combination of both. This year, approximately 25% of the student body receives aid; the average award is $30,700.

Presidential Scholars
Eight Presidential Scholars since 1995 are Burroughs graduates. Our most recent Presidential Scholar graduated with the Class of 2022.

Endowment Fund
Income from endowment provides approximately 10% of the school's annual operating revenue.

Annual Fund
Income from the Annual Fund covers almost 10% of the school's operating expenses. In 2025-2026, more than $3 million was contributed by parents/guardians, alumni, parents of alumni, grandparents, and friends.

Major components of the Burroughs campus include

• the Brauer Building and Schnuck Wing & Tower (most of our academic classrooms, modern languages computer lab, the Bonsack Gallery, the dining room, and administration, admissions, business and advancement offices);
• the Science, Technology & Research (STAR) building and Koman Research & Technology Wing (the two-level library as well as classrooms and offices for science, computer science, industrial technology/engineering, family and consumer science);
• the Kuehner Fine Arts Building (a gallery for student and alumni exhibits, and painting, sculpture, printmaking and photography studios);
• Haertter Hall (auditorium/main stage theater, black box theater and dance studio as well as classrooms, practice rooms and recital rooms for band, orchestra and chorus);
• the Student Commons (informal gathering spaces for students, conference rooms and offices for principals, college counseling, service learning, and diversity, equity & inclusivity, the bookstore);
• the Taylor Family Athletic Center (a multi-level performance gym, a weight/cardio/fitness center, athletic offices and conference rooms); 
• the Memorial Gym, the Olin Field House (which houses three courts and the indoor track); and a new natatorium and squash courts.
• Outdoor athletic facilities include the Lee Tennis Complex; the Beckman Soccer Field; the Leland Stadium Field and Lemen Press Box/Stands; the Keefer Track; Katzman Park, the McConnell Baseball Field, and Sisler Stands; and the Lt. Roz Schulte '02 Water Turf Field (field hockey and lacrosse).
