The 2008-2009 school elections showcased the talented students Burroughs has to offer. The competition was fierce, because the elected officials will be involved in the selection process for the next headmaster.
The two candidates for seventh grade justice were A.D. Marshall and Peter Schnuck. Peter Schnuck won with promises of taking his duties seriously and respecting the opinions of everyone.
Eighth grade presented four candidates: Nick Beulick, Colman Jin, Chris Jones, and Julia Katzman. Colman Jin won with a funny and promising speech, stating he was responsible and hardworking. He also added that he was the Asian super-hero who kept St. Louis safe.
In the ninth grade, Eric Lawton, Willie Maritz, and Margaret Schnuck, competed against each other. Margaret Schnuck won with promises to take the job seriously, help the student body to better understand court, and do her best to reduce students' detention sentence. She also said she is very nice and would be easy to approach if anyone had any questions or concerns about court. This was her third year in a row winning this position.
Becca Katzmam, Chris Lee, Matt McDonald, Ian Nightingale, and Jake Siwak were the candidates for tenth grade justice. Ian Nightingale won, saying he was disciplined and would fight for the students, and also commented that he was a safeguard for you. He added a campaign song he wrote for the entire school.
There were five candidates for Senior Justice: Nicole Carter, William Cheng, Pat McGee, Andrew Truetzel, and Jeremy Weltmer. Nicole Carter and Pat McGee won in the run-offs. Nicole said she already had a lot of interest in school, and said court would have fair trials with her as justice. She also said she will work for the students. Pat McGee started talking about his brother's many accomplishments, and wanted the student body's help in accomplishing something his brother never had. He promised to be a good listener, to do his best, and to attempt to understand everyone.
Chief Justice was a brutal battle between Liesl Schnuck and herself. She promised that there will be more food at the meetings, that she was not a terrifying person, and would try not to have court seem too terrifying. She also thanked her class for not having anyone else run, and giving her this wonderful opportunity.
Student Body President had the competition of three juniors: Erica Barnell, Amol Pai, and Tommy Ryan; it also had the surprising freshman candidate, Farhan Raza. Amol Pai won and promised to have a wonderful year next year, and commented on how great our student body was. He said he had plenty of experience, was great at completing hard work, and had excellent teamwork skills. He promised to bring good ideas to the table, and commented on how he was great at planning events.
