This game started late due to an accident the JBS team bus had on the highway to the game. A car clipped the back of another car that was in front of the bus, spinning the clipped car around so that the bus was going to smash head on. The bus driver avoided what may have resulted in a fatal accident by spinning the car back around. The players who witnessed the accident learned some crash skills. The soccer game was an equally exciting 120 minutes ending in penalty kicks. Bobby's penalty kick, not fully captured in the video, started with him spinning around in a 180 to catch the goalie (and the camera lady) off guard. Our game Goal, Incredible save, One of their saves (a Miles shot), the Penalty Kicks. |

Hard cheese can be tough chewing. The Bombers matched Whitfield again at the State finals. The last time was the 2003 finals that ended with the same result, but this time the Bombers edged toward dominant play even after their keeper was red carded in the middle of the second half. Here is Angelo two minutes into the game racing Whitfield heartbeats. Look at the Whitfield to Bombers ratio in the last video frame. Then Miles warmed the goalie gloves 20 seconds later. Wade volunteers flying lessons to a Whitfield player during this play. Here is the Whitfield goalie in dangerous play to Miles at 8:00 minutes into the game. Notice Miles starting the play away from the goalie and in the last frame notice the referee on hand to see all. The referee finds his whistle two minutes later when Miles shoulders the goalie and manages to stay up after a subsequent foul by a Whitfield defender. The call was against Miles, as it should be in a situation with the goalie within the box. Perhaps the referee remembered this from the 2003 finals game . Jack makes a dramatic kick at 10 minutes into the game. This was followed by Alex's laying of hands. Soon thereafter a scramble in front of the Whitfield goal precedes a blistering shot by Miles assisted by Wade that surely must have skid somebody's drawers. There was not much action at the Bombers goal. Checkout the eye to eye look between Nick and the Whitfield player at the last frame of Nick saving a close shave. Alex and Nick played this tense moment. That is Nick's gloved hand batting the ball away from the Whitfield player's head. Action returned at the Whitfield goal with Wade practicing Ashi-Waza . Apparently Wade, who does lift his head to see Miles, figured Miles would run into the void he passed into. Miles did not catch his drift. The second half brought Peter to menace the goalie three times: Peter once, Peter twice and Peter from Spencer for thrice. The Whitfield goalie and defender seem to be saying their prayers. Miles had limited opportunity with this almost Whitfield own-goal and this vegan (Where's the beef?) shot from a feeder pass from Spencer. Back at the Bomber goal we see the usual solid defense work from Ben until the referee shows keeper Nick the red card for sliding into a attacker out of the box. This teflon moment followed with Andrew as keeper and Wade obviously with his mind on the game. Andrew entertained all with ventures out of the box such as this which in this case ended moments later against Jack the brick wall. At one point came the ultimate sour grape moment involving a Bomber free kick close to the Whitfield goal. The Bombers bombed their play, but what makes it sour is that a Whitfield player clearly moves before the play thereby negating the 20 yard distance requirement! That Whitfield player clears the ball. The referee has a perfect view. Perhaps that player arrived at the ball so quickly that it threw the Bomber's timing off. Whitfield scored in the second overtime during those early, sleepy, warming up moments sometimes seen soon after the kick off. They passed to a player standing at the box in front of the goal. The player was unmarked due to the vacuum effect of action at the sideline. The Bombers achieved 2nd place again in the state finals. There is a huge difference between the Bombers at the beginning of the season and the Bombers at the end of the season. We are proud. |
