"Babes in Arms"
The John Burroughs School Players will present the Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart classic musical, "Babes in Arms" at 8 pm, February 23 through 25, in Haertter Hall.
"Babes in Arms," the story of a teenage boy who produces a show with his friends to avoid being sent to a work farm, was presented on Broadway in 1937, followed by a film starring Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland in 1939. The Burroughs cast of 32 is led by Ian Fletcher ’12, Ginna Doyle ’13, Emma PeConga ’12, Jason Gusdorf ’12 and Hannah Hiler ’14. An orchestra of student musicians will accompany the performers on such familiar favorites as "My Funny Valentine," "Where or When," "The Lady Is a Tramp," "Johnny One Note" and "I Wish I Were in Love Again." Mariel Van Landingham ’12 is the production stage manager and Hannah Rodgers ’14 is assistant director.
"Babes in Arms" is directed by Wayne Salomon (Theatre; Speech/Debate), with staging and choreography by freelance artist Millie Garvey. The set and light design is by Brian Connor (Industrial Technology; Theatre), and costume design is by freelance artist Lena-Marie Bell. Tim Baker (Music) is the production's music director.
Tickets for "Babes in Arms" are $12 and are available in the Burroughs Bookstore, beginning Thursday, February 16. All seats are reserved.
