Honoring the Shahans - Welcoming the Abbotts
On Saturday, May 16th, nearly 1000 alumni, parents, faculty, staff and friends gathered on campus to honor retiring head of school Keith Shahan '62 and to welcome head-elect Andy Abbott.
The evening began in the quadrangle where literally three generations of Bombers mingled before a buffet dinner and program in the field house. The program featured
- the presentation of the 2009 Outstanding Alumnus Award to Dr. Shahan by Dr. Diliane Charles Pelikan '91, president of the Alumni Board
- the unveiling of a portrait of Dr. Shahan, painted and donated by Gilbert "Chic" Early, a nationally renowned portrait artist, husband of Caroline Pitzman Early '57 and father of Melissa Early Ruwitch '85
- remarks by educational consultant and long-time Shahan friend, Dr. Rob Evans
- remarks by long-time Shahan friend and JBS alum, Mark Vittert '65
- a tribute video, presented in two parts
- finale remarks by Andy Abbott and Keith Shahan
