Campus Candids
The Hague - Day 7
While some resolutions may be debated in session for what feels like forever, the week at THIMUN always flies by. On this, the last day of the conference, our students were busy one last time trying to pass their amendments, pass their notes to friendly countries, pass a copy of MUNITY to a delegate for one euro and pass (or fail) the resolutions on the floor. These photos reflect those efforts.
During the closing ceremonies, our JBS delegation at THIMUN expanded by one. Don't fret, here is the fun story: The THIMUN Foundation, in an effort to raise money for Haiti, organized a raffle in which one person would win a cute teddy bear named Teddy MUN. HRH Princess Mabel von Orange-Nassau of the Netherlands, who spoke during the opening ceremonies, was honored with the choice of picking the charity in Haiti. Today, during the closing ceremonies, it was announced that 4000 euros were raised by the THIMUN delegates and directors. In the name of Burroughs, our three chaperones/directors made a contribution to the fundraiser. . . and, lo and behold, when the name was drawn for the raffle, John Burroughs School was called. Emily Smith, representing UNHCR, was presented the bear by the Secretary General and the President of the General Assembly. The JBS THIMUN delegation looks forward to presenting the bear to Mr. Abbott on Monday when we return to school.
