Campus Candids
Rock-a-Bye Treetop
Eight students slept overnight on November 20 in the large oak just east of the Kuehner Fine Arts Building. The sleepover, in hammocks suspended 20 to 60 feet above the ground, was the culminating activity in a series of tree-climbing adventures. Over the course of three Sunday afternoon sessions leading up to the sleepover, the students learned the art of single and double rope tree climbing under the guidance of Jon Richard of Vertical Voyages and under the additional supervision of Michael Dee (English; Outdoor Education). The first person to arise called for a belay at about 6:30 am and came down then. Everyone else was up by about 7:15 am. They slept remarkably well, and no one complained of cold though the temperature at ground level was about 40 degrees, colder in the hammocks. Thank you to Mr. Dee for these photos.
