Campus Candids
Grand Canyon Geologic Expedition
Forty rising ninth graders who opted to participate in the annual trip to the Grand Canyon began their trip just days after school ended. Building on what they learned in their eighth grade earth science classes, they analyzed rock layers and formations in the Grand Canyon and took a raft float trip down the Colorado River, explored the waterfalls and red rocks of slot canyons, visited the Glen Canyon Dam, jumped barefoot at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, trekked through the forested highlands and desert lowlands of Zion National Park, slid down natural water chutes at Slide Rock State Park, hiked for 10 miles in and out of Havasupai Canyon, and camped for two nights between Mooney Falls and Rock Falls. The group was led by science teachers Margaret Bahe and Ike Irby with assistance from Miles Seidel '07 and Addie Brown.
