Empty Bowls Dinner

As has become tradition (this is year four), a collaboration of Montgomery Plan and fine arts students organized an Empty Bowls dinner before the Friday night performance of the musical, Cabaret. Empty Bowls is a nation-wide event sponsored annually by many schools and churches to raise awareness about hunger in our communities. At the Burroughs event, members of our community participated by donating chili or soup, donating a bowl and/or attending the dinner. On Friday night, more than 50 bowls were donated for regular sale and about 10 for special auction price; more than 80 attendees shared a meal; more than a dozen faculty donated chili, soup, or dessert; and more than $900 was collected, to be split between "Let's Move Salad Bars to Schools" program, (which helps public schools purchase salad bar equipment for their lunchrooms) and Food and Meds for Kids, which helps fight hunger and malnutrition in Haiti.  A good time was had by all.
