Campus Candids
Downtime - Colonial Style
Following a unit in which Mark Smith's American history class studied
17th century colonial America, Dr. Smith explained to his students that
as colonists devoted less of their time to survival, they spent more
time on recreation. In a class period devoted to the emerging American
culture, Dr. Smith gave his students the opportunity to experience some
early American past-times. With colonial music playing in the
background, the juniors in the class sampled colonial chocolate (a
delicious blend seasoned with cinnamon and anise) and played children's
games—table top nine pins (similar to bowling), rolling hoops, ball and
cup, and the Game of Graces (a ring tossing contest).
