Campus Candids
Bio Drey Land
The ninth graders, in two sessions, performed an intense field study of the forest and stream ecosystems of the Ozarks. They caught, marked and re-caught crayfish in a population density study; they determined the dominant trees along a transect line; they used surber nets to sample the macroinvertebrates living among the rocks at the bottom of the stream; and they measured the abiotic factors of both the stream and forest. They all had a night out around a campfire for steamboats and s'mores. An inner tube float trip followed by a "creative" volleyball game capped off the last day before students finished the many biology questions in their packets.
Teachers Elaine Childress, Matthew Standish, Rachael Barnes and Jen Gosnell ran the camp for biology teachers Scott Deken, Beth Waterman, Deena Goran and Margaret Bahe.
