A Midsummer Night's Dream

On Sunday, May 16, the Young JBS Players presented a Shakespeare Festival. The entertainment began with a  “Green Show” comprised of sonnet readings and live cello performances by Grant Riew ’15.

Then, taking a cue from The Reduced Shakespeare Company, Clara Abbott '14, Inka Boehm '14 and Ry Gaffney ’15 performed scenes and soliloquies from the Burroughs curriculum—beginning with grade twelve’s Hamlet and working down the years through Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet and Julius Caesar.

The afternoon culminated with the one act production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, featuring a cast of 21 students, including Nathan Dee ’14, Rainey Horwitz ’14, Zach Lamb ’14 and Grace Hildreth ’14 as the two young couples in love, and Connor Slaten ’14 and Tate Bierut ’14 as King Theseus and Queen Hippolyta. The band of amateur actors was led by Sam Mulcahy ’14 as Bottom, and the Fairy World featured Jacob Schechter ’15 as Oberon, Amanda Lewis ’14 as Titania and Audrey Kennedy ’14 as Puck. The Players were led in and out of the auditorium by Nathan Dee on the bagpipes.
