The John Burroughs School Diversity Program received a special recognition from the U.S. Department of Justice Community Relations Service (CRS) commending the school’s diversity initiatives. The Justice Department’s CRS Regional Director Atkins W. Warren made the announcement.

Director Warren and Justice Department CRS Senior Mediator Joe Rodriguez have been extensively engaged in promoting and facilitating race and cultural diversity initiatives throughout the Midwest.

"We are very impressed by the aggressiveness of the administration and the Board at John Burroughs in addressing diversity with an innovative and comprehensive action plan. It reflects a strong commitment to preparing young people for what America will look like and be like in just a few years. Those who are prepared will succeed," said Director Warren.

JBS Headmaster Dr. Keith Shahan said, "The U.S. Department of Justice recognition is an honor that highlights our strong tradition of inclusiveness. This is a very meaningful acknowledgement of the significant work of our Diversity Coordinator Daniel Harris and a number of people involved with shaping our diversity mission and developing a quality action plan that will benefit our students when they become professionals, family people and civic leaders. We are all very proud."
