Robert Carter joined the Burroughs faculty in 2008. He teaches Junior Orchestra, Orchestra and Jazz I and team teaches 8th grade band and beginning band with Tim Baker. He performs with the St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra as principal bassoonist and as a saxophonist and multi-woodwind instrumentalist with Contemporary Productions at venues throughout the metro area.

After receiving a bachelor's degree in music education from Eastern Illinois University, Carter pursued advanced study in saxophone performance at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon, where he received his master's degree in music. His desire for in-depth knowledge of bassoon performance led him to St. Louis, where he attended the St. Louis Conservatory of Music, earning a graduate diploma in bassoon performance.

Carter finds it very gratifying to share the technique and skills he has learned throughout his performing career when performing with artists like The Temptations, The Four Tops, Bernadette Peters, The Manhattan Transfer, Martha Reeves, Diane Carol and others.
