| Sculpture I Curriculum
|
Like the Intensive curriculum, the Sculpture curriculum focuses on several major issues identified through assigned exercises. Understanding of spatial illusion and form through modeling from observation as well as some conceptual exercises allow the sculptor to experience the same sort of issues faced by professional artists. In the various activities we cover major elements: plane, gesture, scale, mass, line. Various exercises are generated to clarify these elements, but even more important, critiques and field trips can reveal to the sculptor some of the important ideas that generate a sculpture. Sculpture presents the art student with the same types of issues faced by the professional - from compositional and aesthetic concerns to technical and structural requirements. The sculptors make use of a variety of techniques including welding, brazing, bronze casting, clay modeling, mold-making, aluminum riveting, etc. In periodic critiques, the sculptor is encouraged to become fluent and comfortable talking about sculptural issue. ![]() |
