SCHEDULE & PROCESS

February 15, 2008

A message from Todd Schnuck, Chair of the Search Committee:

The committee's first task in the search for the next head of John Burroughs School is to select an educational search consultant.  We are in the midst of that process right now, interviewing firms from across the country, and hope to make a decision by the end of this month.

This is standard practice in any national search.  A consultant will bring expertise and experience to

§         help assure full community input into the search process and decision;

§         help us develop a case statement to describe the school for prospective candidates;

§         help the community articulate a needs assessment identifying the school’s strengths and opportunities for improvement; and

§         facilitate access to candidates and, in most cases, serve as the first point of contact between Burroughs and a candidate.

Throughout this process, members of the Burroughs community, including faculty, current parents, parents of alumni, past trustees and board chairs, alumni, students and other friends of the school, will be asked to provide input and guidance.  All input will be treated confidentially.

The search schedule is outlined below, and I will use this space to provide further updates as appropriate.  In the meantime, however, if you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to Contact Us.

Search Schedule

  • January –  form and convene the Search Committee……………………..completed
  • February –  interview (and retain) search consultants
  • March –  seek initial parent input at the Parent Forum
  • April –  bring the consultant on site to interview the school community and to begin development of a case statement for candidates
  • May –  refine the case statement
  • June – August –  on hiatus as consultant develops a candidate pool
  • End August – early September –  review and cull list of candidates advanced by the consultant
  • Late September – early October –  conduct “quiet” meetings in St. Louis with leading candidates (quiet in so far as candidates may not want their current schools to be aware of their candidacies)
  • Late October – early November –  bring two to three finalists to campus for “public” (i.e., visible) two-day interviews on campus (format TBD)
  • November –  visit top candidates’ home schools
  • Late November – advance one candidate for the Board’s consideration and approval
