Acceptable Use Policy

This policy applies to all technology resources including, but not limited to, computers, phones, video equipment, copy machines and information storage devices. The use of these resources is a privilege and must be treated as such by all users.

This policy applies to all technology resources including, but not limited to, computers, phones, video equipment, copy machines and information storage devices. The use of these resources is a privilege and must be treated as such by all users.

The trust that defines this community requires that our technology resources be used for educational purposes, unselfishly, with good manners, and for the good of the community as a whole.

The actions listed below are violations of the school's Technology Acceptable Use Policy (TAUP):

JBS students must always adhere to the license agreements for installing/copying software that is purchased by the school.

Students may not use JBS technological systems or devices for private gain or any other commercial purpose.

Students may not in any way vandalize equipment or software here or at any facility to which JBS has internet access. Examples of unacceptable behavior include, but are not limited to, damaging, hacking, or destroying networks, computer hardware or software; physical abuse to equipment; and the creation or intentional use of malicious programs.

Students shall not use technological tools for the harassment of others.

All students must respect the privacy of others. Any attempt to access private files, phone, or email messages is considered theft.

Students are to use internet access for strictly academic purposes when on campus.  Examples of internet sites that may not be visited while on campus at JBS include, but are not limited to, social networking sites such as My Space and Facebook; gaming or gambling sites; pornographic or otherwise sexually explicit sites; sites promoting "how to" documents encouraging violence or illegal acts; and sites that promote racist tracts or hate speech.

Students may not use personal technological devices during the school day. These items include but are not limited to cell phones, iPods, MP3 players, DVD players and laptops. Students who need laptops for academic reasons may check one out for use within the library.

The consequences of the above violations will be in keeping with the school's disciplinary system. If there is clear evidence of abuse or a threat to system response, integrity, or security, a student’s files or other property may be inspected. For violations, access to technology may be revoked for a period of time in addition to probation, suspension, or expulsion from school.
