Faculty

Julie Harris joined the Burroughs faculty in 1995. She is the chair of the Mathematics Department and has taught many courses including Math 7, Geometry, Pre-calculus and AP Calculus. She also serves on the teacher evaluation team and is a member of the faculty diversity steering committee, serving as the chair of the campus environment subcommittee. Harris holds a bachelor of arts degree in mathematics from Washington University and a master's degree in education from St. Louis University.

Rachael Barnes joined the Burroughs faculty in 1997. She teaches Math 7, Algebra and Pre-calculus and is a faculty co-sponsor of the 10th grade. She holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics and education from Washington University and is working toward a master's of finance degree from the John Cook School of Business at St. Louis University. She has refereed article submissions for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and was published in the April 2010 issue of NCTM's journal, Mathematics Teacher.

Laura Crowley joined the Burroughs faculty in 2004. She currently teaches Math 7 and Calculus, coordinates the department’s peer tutoring program and is a co-sponsor of the 10th grade class. Prior to coming to Burroughs, Crowley taught and was chair of the Math Department at Shorecrest High School in Seattle. She holds a bachelor's degree in math from Illinois Wesleyan University and a master's in education from University of Missouri-St. Louis.

Peggy Davison joined the Burroughs faculty in 2005. She teaches Introduction to Algebra, Geometry 9, Finite Mathematics and Personal Finance. She is a faculty sponsor of the Global Youth Leadership Institute. She holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Northwestern University.

Macon Finley joined the Burroughs faculty in 2000 as a member of the math faculty. In addition to teaching, she is now principal of 7th and 8th grades, sponsor of the 7th grade and calendar coordinator. She holds a bachelor's degree in statistics from Princeton University and a master's in business administration from Stanford University. Prior to coming to Burroughs, Finley worked at Ralston Purina (product management), Pacific Gas & Electric Company (market research) and the Biostatistics Group at Washington University Medical School. During a window when she was raising small children, Finley served on a number of community boards and helped start the St. Louis Regional Child Care Partnership and participated in the Leadership St. Louis Program. 

Suzy Hamon joined the Burroughs faculty in 2003. She has taught many of the courses offered, notably Algebra I 9, Algebra II, Honors PreCalculus and independent studies. Hamon holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Augustana College and a master's and doctorate in mathematics from the University of Iowa.

Eric Hanson joined the Burroughs faculty in 1972. He teaches Algebra II, Pre-calculus and Honors Pre-calculus, and is a faculty sponsor of outdoor education. He is former chair of the Mathematics Department and former coordinator of Drey Land.

Kevin McKone joined the Burroughs faculty in 1988. He teaches Introduction to Algebra, Algebra I and Algebra II, and tutors in the Academic Support Department. He is also co-site director of Aim High, a program which supports talented St. Louis public school students in their effort to graduate from high school (and hopefully college). He has coached a number of sports at Burroughs, including ice hockey, soccer, tennis, basketball, baseball, softball and lacrosse. McKone has a bachelor's degree from Brown University and a master's in educational administration from St. Louis University.

Tuan Nguyen joined the Burroughs faculty in 2008. He teaches 8th grade Algebra, Geometry 10 and Algebra II. He is sponsor for the Asian Culture Club and co-sponsor for the Chess Club. He holds bachelor's degrees in physics and math from University of Oklahoma and a master's in teaching (math concentration) from Washington University. He taught Algebra I, Algebra II and AP Calculus at Block Yeshiva High School while working on his graduate degree.

Anne Rossi joined the Burroughs faculty in 1969, was away from full-time teaching for a few years, and resumed teaching in 1987. Immediate past chair of the department, she has taught most of the courses offered in the Mathematics Department and currently teaches 9th grade Algebra I, 9th grade Geometry and AP Calculus. She is one of the JBS schedulers and a 9th grade class faculty co-sponsor. Rossi holds a bachelor's degree from Earlham College and a master's in teaching from Washington University. She is a consultant for The College Board Midwest Region, conducting workshops for high school teachers of AP calculus and serving as a reader of the AP calculus exam.

Jason Taff joined the Burroughs faculty in 1994. He teaches Math 7, 9th grade Geometry and Algebra II. His is also the math competition coordinator. Taff holds a bachelor's degree in math and linguistics from Washington University and a master's in linguistics from University of Texas-Austin. He is president of the American Go Association-St. Louis Chapter and holds a black belt in Aikido.
